In Mauritania there is no recruitment by competition, and the only way to get a job is the family intervention, so if you don’t have someone of your relative who occupies a very good place in a company or in a government, you’ll never get any job whatever your qualification (this is a general truth today).
But what makes things look dreadful is that, there are some citizens who are almost not represented at all in the government and in all the national companies, because many years ago they were prevented from going to school (for some reason very known). And the fact that they are not very well represented create a hurdle before their sons today, even if they are very well qualified they will never access any decent job, and that’s why I think positive discrimination or affirmative action should be applied in Mauritania if we really want to offer an equal chance for all the citizens.
